Ageing Aveling Barford Truck up for Grabs

Something a bit different here on the blog today, as we check out this interesting old Aveling Barford DNX truck that is selling online with Ritchie Bros UK today, 28th June.

Ageing Aveling Barford Truck up for Grabs

This Aveling Barford truck which dates from the early 1970’s is currently in the auction line up at the Ritchie Bros UK, Maltby facility and is quite an unusual piece of equipment.

One would imagine this unit started its life as an Aveling Barford 690 ‘scow end’ dump truck, but at some point, in its life it has been converted to be an explosive material transporter for working in a quarrying and mining application.

According to my research online, these trucks were originally designed and built by AEC and were also marketed as Scammell, they were later produced for Grantham based Aveling Barford by Thorneycroft.

Aveling Barford had success in selling somewhere in the region of 440 of these trucks, largely in the form of big orders for the British Army, but many units also found their way into the construction and earthworks sectors.

If any of our readers know where this unit spent its working life and has any information about it, we would love to hear from you over on our social media channels. This is a great opportunity for someone to own a piece of British transport history and is prime for a restoration job.

You can check out the line up of the machines on offer in this flyover video from our friend and industry colleague Peter Haddock of Content with Media.

You can place a bid now and view the lots with full inspection reports at rbauction.co.uk or download the Ritchie Bros. app in the App Store. #auction #auctiontime #onlineauction #usedequipment #ritchiebros #placeabid
