JCB big guns of the past in action

A classic JCB archive video has recently been doing the rounds on the forums and now countless plant Facebook pages. I thought it would definitely be of interest to the Digger Man Blog readers.

The footage focusing on demolition works features two of JCB’s biggest machines from the 1970’s era. First up is the JCB 808 hydraulic excavator, which was the largest model in the 800 series range. This machine first appeared in 1974 and was powered by a side mounted Perkins six cylinder engine of some 138hp. The second machine of note in the video is the JCB 114 crawler loader, the biggest machine in the 3 model range of hydrostatically driven loaders which was first launched in 1971 with the 110 and was joined in the mid 1970’s by the 112 and 114 models. The 114 was powered by a 126hp Perkins six cylinder engine. These machines were way ahead of their time and did not really sell that well. The range ceased production in 1979. I don’t know of any surviving JCB 114’s but a 110B is featured in the Story of JCB exhibition at the factory in Rocester. Here is the video which has been taken from old 16mm cine film. The clip ends around the 7 minute mark.
