JCB, It’s a Piece of Cake
The marketing team at Scot JCB recently commissioned the making of a large JCB themed cake for an event they were holding and one has to say it’s a masterpiece!
Scot JCB held a big party to celebrate the 25-year milestone since a management buyout which saw Steve Bryant, David Donoghue, John Kilby and Tom Morrison purchase Scot JCB from Hewden Stuart.
A big party always requires a big cake, and the requirement for this mammoth creation was that it had to be shaped like an iconic JCB 3CX backhoe loader.
The team approached Glasgow based cake creator extraordinaire Christie Boyle who runs ‘Cake Days a Week in the East End of the city. The cake itself, which was a traditional vanilla sponge with strawberry jam and white chocolate ganache, tipped the scales at around four stone and measured more than three feet. It was designed to cater for 200 people but Christie said it could have easily served 250.
The fondant covered creation, which also featured an inedible support structure inside, took around 30 hours to make from start to finish, and used 60 eggs and 15kg of icing, during what Christies described as an intense week of preparation! It was so big it had to be delivered on a trolley assisted by Christie and some friends.
According to Christie, the hardest part of the cake was creating the backhoe aspect. The detail on this cake is simply quite phenomenal and real credit to this talented lady.
Unfortunately, the cake has all been eaten, and they didn’t even save me a piece, ha ha!
The real life inspiration, the iconic JCB 3CX Backhoe Loader.
