More JCB Archive Footage
Well, our coverage of all things Hillhead related may have come to an end, but for our first post this week we return to the legendary Peak District with some more vintage footage from our friends at JCB.
While modern machinery technology has moved on at an incredibly rapid pace, for many of us, a look back at the past through rose tinted glasses is still a bit of a habit, but the interest in the old kit is still massive, and the statistics when we post material about the old machines of yesteryear bear testament to that fact.
In this latest delve into the archives from JCB, we head back to 1966-67 to see a JCB 6C model that was working alongside the river Derwent in the town of Matlock on a road widening project which saw the engineers reclaiming land from the riverbank.
According to my research the JCB 6C was officially launched in the July of 1966, but the machine in the video features an ‘E’ registration plate which would make it a 1967 model.
The 6C which was later joined by the wider undercarriage version the 6D was powered by a six cylinder, 106hp Perkins engine, and had a digging depth in old school money of 22ft, and a maximum reach at ground level of 31ft. The 6C was replaced in 1973 by the new 800 series 807 model in 1973.
What I love about these old videos is the way they are presented in the classic British tone, and with fantastic local background knowledge.
Without further ado, sit back relax and enjoy this classic footage.
