New “fluid” carrying test for dumper operators

News reaches the Digger Man Blog about a new skills test which will be rolled out as part of the forward tipping dumper skills assessment.

New “fluid” carrying test for dumper operators
Operating a forward tipping dumper on sites can be challenging for some, even at the best of times. With an eye on further improving skills a number of industry training bodies look set to introduce the Control of Water and The Fluid concrete test aka the C-WTF test for short. Talking to the Digger Man Blog a training industry spokesperson, April Showers, said, “For many years now there has been a problem with operators getting wet when carrying fluids in the skip of a forward tipping dumper, mainly caused by a lack of control when driving, allowing the liquids to slop back over the operative or in some extreme cases onto ground crew stood in front of the dumper, this new test which will be part of the CPCS A09 category will teach operators to be more gentle while sat in the seat and we hope this will result in a great improvement in operating conditions, with the operator not having to sit in wet clothes for long periods of time, especially during the winter months!”   The test will involve steering a dumper with its skip full of water through a challenging course while going up and down ramps, any spillage of fluid will result in a failure to pass the test. Summarizing about this new initiative April said, “While some may find it amusing, this test is not for fools and we expect many to get unexpectedly wet while trying to complete the task!” At the Digger Man Blog we suspect this will probably be a bit of a test for those that are still a bit wet behind the ears!
