Old Cat safety film still delivers the message

I’m sure we have all seen the classic Caterpillar safety film “Shake Hands with Danger” which has in the past been featured on this blog, but I recently re-discovered another classic Cat film which I thought I would share in this post.

The film in question is The Roll of Drums a 20 minute film produced by Caterpillar in 1964. The grainy quality video compares stunts performed by professional entertainers in a circus or fair to the daily risks taken on construction sites with heavy equipment and considering its age and the lack of anything remotely like CGI in those days, there is some pretty dramatic footage. Yes the movie is a bit cheesy by modern standards but the message is as relevant today as it was when the film was first produced all those years ago, that carelessness and a “gung ho” attitude to safety can have devastating results.
