Old “Green Lizard” fired up
Since this blogs inception in its Contract Journal days in 2008 one of the most popular topics has been motor scrapers and over the years since we have developed a great following from real old school operators who used to run these things, as such it’s always great to share new content on these machines.
Chris Guins is an American guy who has a phenomenal following on his letsdig18 You Tube channel and while browsing over the weekend I came across this new video from Chris featuring his mate’s classic Terex TS-14 motor scraper being fired up and put through its paces. These old machines and older Euclid’s before them were affectionately known as green lizards for obvious reasons, but most people remember them for the screaming noise emitted from the twin Detroit Diesel engines that were fitted on them.
Probably not such a great sound if you were sat in the seat next to that exhaust stack every day and from what I am told these machines were not the most comfortable of things to ride on as they were not fitted with a cushion hitch arrangement like on later Caterpillar models, something that also gained these machines the unenviable nickname of the “back breakers”!
Any way check out this video and watch the old girl in action as she rides again.
