Rare Euclid/Terex Scraper Model Spotted
Our friend and roving American heavy machinery enthusiast Anthony Lucibello who hails from North Brantford, Connecticut, has a special interest in historical and veteran machines, and he recently came across a rare Euclid/Terex scraper set up, which I wanted to share here on the Digger Man Blog.
Based on the then best-selling, and increasingly popular 14-cubic yard capacity TS-14 model, the TTS-14 or Tandem, was launched in 1963, as a solution to customer demands for more load capacity and increased power for self-loading.
In layman’s terms it was another TS-14 bowl and engine mounted to the back of another entire TS-14 model, by means of a fifth wheel arrangement. Running three Detroit Diesel engines this machine could amass a total power output of 444hp, and one hell of a lot of noise from those screaming GM power units!
As I understand it, the front machine would load itself first, then use the weight and combined power of all 3 engines to load the rear bowl. I don’t think these were produced in any great numbers, as they were considered too be somewhat un-practical due to the overall length and cost to run. According to Anthony this example still sees occasional use in the Missouri area, which is where he captured the machine in action.
I came across this video on You Tube that could potentially be this same machine, which is described as a 1968 model.
The Digger Man Blog thanks Anthony for the share of his images.
