Short Tail Komatsu Duck is the Star

Our friends over at Komatsu Europe have produced a cracking video featuring the new PW158-11 wheeled excavator, which I just had to share here with the Digger Man Blog faithful.

Short Tail Komatsu Duck is the Star

The PW158-11 was actually launched mid-way through 2020 but kind of slipped off the radar due to the restrictions of the global pandemic I would imagine. These compact radius, 15-to-17 tonne class have become extremely popular for urban projects where space on site is tight and especially on single lane road closures where the machine can work without hindering passing traffic.

These highly mobile excavators also deliver great lifting capacity, despite their compact form, another aspect that makes them highly desirable to a wide range of contractors.

Designed and developed in Europe, the PW158-11 has a swing tail radius of only 1900mm but can lift more than 5000kg over the front or rear without the need for stabilizers. With the compact dimensions and small turning radius, it is the ideal machine for heavy work on congested work sites.

Operating weights range from 15080 kg to 18240 kg. Its Stage V emissions compliant Komatsu SAA4D107E-3 diesel engine offers a power output rating of 90 kW / 122 HP, at 2100 rpm, and a Komatsu Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (KDOC) works together with the engine and other after-treatment components for improved efficiency and longer life.

A boom suspension system (ECSS) provides a significant increase in comfort when travelling over bumps. The operator’s seat comes with suspended joystick consoles, premium cushioning, auto weight adjustments and pneumatic lumbar support. Joystick Steering (JSS) is provided, as an option, for outstanding operator comfort and control, with new and easy-to-use operation switches.

With many end-users specifying these machines to a Scandinavian standard, with tiltrotators, tipping trailers up to 8-tonnes, and a whole arsenal of different work tools they really are changing the way we work in the UK, a multi-functional machine for the 21st century.
