Clugston calls in administrators
Construction firm Clugston, which employs over 600 people, has called in administrators. The company has subsequently stopped work on Newcastle University’s new £39m building extension and £25 modern sports centre (image: GSS Architecture).
The Unite union is in discussions with administrator KPMG about unpaid wages, and the university is also liaising with them in an attempt to find a solution. The sports centre was expected to open in January 2020. Thankfully, Clugston Distribution Services Ltd and Clugston Estates Ltd are unaffected by the construction firm’s situation.
Since Clugston fell into administration, French partner CNIM has announced it is taking on the 67 Clugston staff working on five current joint venture projects.
