Excavator falls down shaft
Construction workers in China had a lucky escape yesterday, when an excavator they were lifting by crane slipped loose and tumbled down a ventilation shaft. The South China Morning Post reports that nobody was hurt in the incident at the Ho Man Tin site in Hong Kong (part of the multi-billion pound Central Kowloon Route trunk road project), but work is suspended for the time being whilst the Highways Department carries out an investigation.
A witness said rope slings used to lift the Doosan excavator were incorrectly positioned and allowed the machine to slip down the shaft. Watch CCTV footage of the accident below.
