JCB jobs at risk
JCB's UK plants braced themselves for up to 950 redundancies after it announced demand had fallen by half as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. It is understood JCB has written to its UK employees to advise up to 950 staff roles are under threat at its 10 plants in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Wrexham. A 45-day consultation period will begin on Monday, the firm said. In addition, approximately 500 Guidant agency employees, working at UK sites, are also being released.
JCB currently employs about 6,700 people in the UK, including agency employees, but a large proportion of its employees are currently on furlough until the end of May after production ceased in March. However, about 400 employees returned in production roles at Rocester on Monday.
