M&J Evans strikes sustainability-driven 56 Kobelco deal
One of the UK’s leading groundworks and civil engineering contractors, M&J Evans, has completed a 56 Kobelco excavator deal with the UK dealer, Molson Group. The Japanese-manufactured machines renowned for their low fuel consumption played a key part in the decision-making process, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainability, fuel efficiency, productivity, and reliability in its construction operations.

The decision to expand the fleet with Kobelco machinery follows extensive market research. It aligns with M&J's commitment to its environmental responsibility. The Japanese manufacturer’s excavators are renowned for their low fuel consumption, achieved through a combination of fuel-efficient and reliable engine technology and advanced hydraulic systems.
Paul Allman, Director of Plant at M&J, commented on the investment: “Integrating these new Kobelco excavators into our fleet is a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency across all aspects of the business while minimising environmental impact. Kobelco excavators’ high fuel efficiency and reliability will support our sustainability goals in delivering a high-quality and cost-effective service to our clients.”
This strategic investment sees a split of the popular SK28SR-7, SK50SR-7, SK85MSR-7 and sk130lc-11 models added to their extensive fleet. To ensure the machines meet the high safety and quality standards set by M&J, the excavators have been supplied with Miller quick couplers, a range of Strickland buckets and Trackunit vehicle tracking systems.

The procurement of the new plant equipment is part of M&J's broader strategy to maintain a technologically led and environmentally friendly fleet. In 2022/23, the company invested over £32 million in new plant equipment, focusing on machines with low-emission engines and high productivity. Adding the Kobelco excavators further strengthens this initiative, providing state-of-the-art equipment to support various house building projects nationwide. “Whilst the Kobelco excavators offer us the fuel savings we require, this doesn’t come with any deterioration in productivity or reliability,” Allman added. “We expect the excavators to be welcomed by our operators as they are very highly specified and will integrate into our operations seamlessly.”
By choosing Kobelco, M&J continues to demonstrate its leadership in adopting innovative solutions that promote sustainability and operational excellence. The new excavators will be deployed across multiple sites, working for many of the UK’s largest residential developers, enhancing the company’s capacity to deliver projects efficiently and responsibly.
