New Cat 315 GC

Caterpillar has announced a new compact radius excavator. With an operating weight of 15.4 tonnes, the Cat 315 GC Next Gen has a larger cab than the old 315F, lowers maintenance costs by up to 25% and reduces fuel consumption by up to 15%.

The new Stage 5 (Tier 4 Final) Cat C3.6 engine powering the 315 GC features Smart Mode operation, which automatically matches engine and hydraulic power to digging conditions, optimising fuel consumption and machine performance. Combined with Eco mode operation that saves fuel in less demanding applications, the 315 GC Next Gen excavator reduces fuel consumption by up to 15% compared to the 315F. The 315 GC features a new main hydraulic control valve that eliminates the need for pilot lines, reduces pressure losses and lowers fuel consumption. The excavator’s advanced hydraulic system provides the optimum balance of power and efficiency, while providing the control needed for precise digging requirements.

Cat says the new excavator’s larger cab design improves entry and exit, plus boosts operator comfort and productivity, whilst the larger front, rear and side windows, and narrow cab pillars increase vertical visibility by 60% compared to the Cat 315F excavator. The new cab design features an 8-inch LCD monitor with touchscreen linked to standard rear view and right-hand sideview. Reducing operator fatigue are viscous mounts that lessen cab vibrations compared to previous designs.

Extended service intervals on the new 315 GC excavator reduces maintenance costs by up to 25% compared to the 315F. Its new hydraulic oil filter delivers improved filtration and extends filter change intervals to 3,000 operating hours, which is a 50% increase, reckons Cat. Other key stats for the new Cat 315 GC include a maximum digging depth of 5.9m, a maximum ground level reach of 8.7m and a maximum loading height of 7.2m.
