Reman engine rebuild gives second life to Cat® 320E for Kevin Woods Plant Hire

Finning UK & Ireland, the world’s largest dealer of Cat equipment, parts and aftermarket services, has worked closely with Kevin Woods Plant Hire to prolong the life of its Cat 320E excavator, offering a cost-effective and sustainable solution with a reman engine and hydraulic pump rebuild.

Kevin Woods Plant Hire specialises in heavy earthworks, drainage and land regeneration and its machines are subject to intensive wear due to the demanding applications they face. When it was time to fit the Cat 320E excavator with a new engine the company turned to Finning for a solution that would minimise downtime and lessen the impact on the business.

The Cat 320E excavator’s C6.6 ACERTTM engine had run approximately 15,000 service metre units and Finning recommended a reman engine to pro-long the machine’s lifespan and minimise downtime.

Holly Hayward, Sales Representative at Finning UK & Ireland said: “We want to ensure we are keeping the customer’s business needs at the heart of every service recommendation. In this case we felt a reman engine would not only prolong the life of the customer’s much-loved machine but minimise downtime to its business.

“Once the machine had reached our workshop in Cannock our expert engineers were also able to recommend a preventative rebuild of the main hydraulic pump which had also experienced considerable wear throughout its working life in demanding applications.

“The rebuild process ensures that the Cat 320E excavator operates at peak performance and we were pleased to be able to offer the customer a warranty on both the rebuild engine and hydraulic pump to provide peace of mind for the future.”

Having an existing interest in rebuilds, Kevin Woods, Director of Kevin Woods Plant Hire was keen to give his machine a second life, he said: “We opted for the reman engine rebuild for the numerous benefits they offer. As with most companies we want to be as sustainable as possible and going with a reman engine certainly helps towards our sustainability goals.

“It is also a very cost-effective option, which, in current economic times, is something all businesses are having to consider more and more. Minimising downtime was also a big concern, as this is a well-loved machine that plays a critical part in the everyday operations of our business.

“We have been really impressed with the expertise and support from Finning, as well as the quick turnaround of the rebuild itself. The added warranty on the engine and main hydraulic pump is also extra peace of mind for the future and we look forward to working with Finning again to ensure our fleet is performing at its best for our customers.”
