Return to Volvo for George Russell Construction

George Russell Construction Ltd of Denny, Falkirk, has rekindled an old acquaintance with Volvo Construction Equipment products with the purchase of two 22-tonne EC220Es.

George Russell Construction is no stranger to owning and operating Volvo equipment having operated EC210 and the larger EC240 models in the past. “We have a good experience with operating Volvo excavators going back many years,” explains Director, George Russell (jnr). “As we needed to add two more machines for specific projects, SMT GB were able to supply right away so their availability played a part in us choosing Volvo once again. We know they have a good pedigree in terms of reliability and productivity and they hold strong residual values so everything felt right doing this deal.”

Powered by a six-cylinder Volvo engine developing 174 nett hp, the EC220E offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example, pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. When Eco-mode is selected, the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions.

The new EC220Es have been supplied in standard specification which includes hose rupture valves to both boom and dipper cylinders, quick-fit hydraulics and hammer / shear hydraulic lines. The combination of the 5.7m boom and 2.9m dipper arm affords the machine a maximum digging reach of 9.93 metres and a dig depth of 6.73 metres. The practical dumping height is a generous 6.55 metres and the machine’s maximum lifting capacity across carriage at full reach, an impressive 2.8 tonnes. “The EC220E is proving to be the optimum size of machine for our operations,” says George Russell. “It has plenty of breakout force and digging power and is ideal for bulk muck shifting and hammer work.”

George Russell Construction Ltd was established in 1972 and specialises in general contracting and private house building projects throughout the central belt of Scotland. The company, based in Denny, Falkirk, also undertakes bulk muck-shifting projects and material recycling.
