Wee Lassie Mo goes Solo Down Under
Mo Duncan (30) is an inspiring, independent, and determined woman who has achieved so much in her life in the heavy plant and machinery game, much of which is documented on her Instagram account @theweelassieoperator.
Having grown up on her parent’s farm in the wilds of East Ayrshire, Scotland, she had been exposed to diggers from a very young age. Her father John Duncan runs a long-established company back home called RS Duncan Plant Hire, and it was while helping her father around the farm that she honed her operating skills.
The ever-ambitious Mo decided to pack her bags and head for a new life in New South Wales, Australia back in 2016 and has never really looked back since. She didn’t initially intend to stay “Down Under” but the work/lifestyle balance is far better than one could ever expect back home, so she just hasn’t left. Having said that, she still loves to travel and was most recently over in Las Vegas for ConExpo-Con/Agg for a stop off before heading back to Scotland to catch up with her parents.
I had hoped to catch up with Mo at the show but despite messaging each other we never seemed to be in the right part of the showground at the same time, but one day I hope to meet up for a good chat!
Mo has most recently taken the big leap of faith into becoming an owner/operator and has invested in a brand new Kobelco SK17 SR mini excavator, C/W a dedicated trailer and attachments, which has been supplied by Kobelco Construction Machinery Australia dealer Brisvegas Machinery who are based in Queensland.
Mo picked up the new arrival with her own super distinctive Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, and as any proud new machine owner would do, took the opportunity to have a few shots taken with her new blue baby!
With her good contacts in the region, I’m sure Mo will be kept very busy with the machine, and I for one will continue watching her journey with great interest. The Digger Man Blog wishes you all the very best with the new venture.
