A Day in the Life of a Service Engineer
Instagram and social media platforms in general are now saturated with accounts documenting the day to day lives of digger drivers and operators, so it’s been quite refreshing to stumble across something different in the form of Ali Kaye’s Digger Diary accounts on You Tube and Instagram.
Alasdair Kaye aka Ali, who hails from Carlisle set up his You Tube account around about a year ago, to offer viewers an insight into the trials and tribulations of a mobile service engineer working for a Scottish based Doosan dealership in the North West of England and the channel has already amassed an impressive 5.74k subscribers, who tune in to see what he has been up to out in the field.
We got in touch with the man behind it all to find out more. Ali left school in 2008, and started an apprenticeship as a plant engineer with access platform hire company EPL Access. Unfortunately, that business went into liquidation some time later so Ali had to go off in search of another start.

Fortunately, Ali quickly found new employment with Lloyd Ltd where he was able to continue his apprenticeship working with Doosan, Bobcat, New Holland, and Manitou brands.
During his apprenticeship Ali travelled to Reaseheath College in Nantwich every 8 weeks for a block of 4-6 weeks. Ali worked at Lloyds for around 8 years. Gordons Construction Equipment then took on the Doosan dealership and offered Ali a job covering his own area of Cumbria and the Borders.
Ali said, “I really enjoy working on Doosan products, having gained invaluable experience on them in the past, so I took the opportunity to continue my relationship with the brand.
I now look after the majority of Doosan machines out in the field in the Borders and Cumbria, and I really enjoy the variety of work, and of course, being out and about in such glorious countryside. I’m now 30 years old so I’ve probably gained about 13-15 years’ experience on the tools doing what I love!”.

At the time of writing this Ali has produced 151 episodes of his digger diary videos on his channel, and you can watch that one below. Don’t forget to subscribe to his channel as it all helps You Tubers to grow.
