A Dream Team Day Out at the V.E.T

In his one of his latest ‘Ali’s Digger Diary’ You Tube video’s, machinery technician Ali Kaye has paid a visit to the Vintage Excavator Trust in Threlkeld, with two other well-known construction machinery social media celebrities.

Ali was joined at Threlkeld by our good friends Dave Vickers aka Digging with Dave, and Mark Richardson aka MDITCH84 as they visited the latest edition of the famous quarries working day event.

Could these boys be setting out the format for a regular Top Gear style digger show we have to ask? The formula definitely looks good, 3 very different characters, each playing to their own strengths in todays media hungry world, I think it could be a goer!

Anyway, the early part of the video see’s the boys taking a good look around at some of the incredible old machines that reside at the Vintage Excavator Trust. I have only had the pleasure of visiting the place once, when I was up that way back in 2014, on a Hyundai assignment for Earthmovers with dealers Taylor & Braithwaite, when I decided to stay over and make a pilgrimage to the quarry. Seeing as it’s a 380-mile trip one way for me, it could be a while before I go again too sadly!

The video is really interesting especially from Ali’s mechanical perspective, as he compares it to the modern machines he works on these days. And from Dave and Mark’s perspective as operators.

I have to agree with Ali too, the skills of the old boys running these machines are incredible, you would certainly know you had done a shift on one of those old girls for sure, can’t imagine any of today’s generation of operators sticking it for too long!
