Bauma 1986 Re-Visited
Our German friend, contributor, and published author Dirk Bömer, is back with another selection of historic Bauma photos from the 1986 edition of the Bavarian machinery fest.
Dirk reports that he has just been attending the GaLaBau trade fair in Nürnberg, the event is primarily focused on gardening and landscaping equipment, but there is also some smaller earthmoving equipment displayed there.
Dirk says that everything was like it was before, as if Covid had never existed, so in his opinion all will now be good for Bauma, and we are looking forward to meeting up face to face for the first time.
We kick off this post with an interesting Akerman H7, which keen eyed readers will note had a speciality boom feature designed specifically for the Dutch market apparently. The boom cylinder was attached below the mono boom which enabled a much higher lift height.
Around this time the VME Group had just been formed and on the stand, they presented this Michigan L 320 wheeled loading shovel.
1986 was the last Bauma where visitors were able to see the genuine red and grey French built Poclain machines, before the business was gobbled up by CASE. On static display they presented the popular 220 CK-B model of hydraulic excavator.
Sadly, not attending again this time around in 2022, JCB were ever present at the shows in years gone by, and in this shot we see the Staffordshire based team putting on its famous dancing diggers routine which has always been popular.
And finally in this batch we see Komatsu’s D375A-1 heavy duty bulldozer.
Once again, we thank Dirk for these great old photos, that are really wetting my appetite for the forthcoming Bauma Trade Fair next month.
