BOMAG Landfill Compactor makes a Big Impact!
At the recent Bomag innovations days event the star of the show was without a doubt the giant BC1173 refuse compactor.
Having been shown all the latest and greatest innovations from Bomag the long-established compaction equipment manufacturer during an interesting, entertaining and informative demonstration, for the finale of the show, it was enter stage left for the big compactor as it trundled towards three scrap motor cars which had been set up in its path.
In dramatic fashion the powerful compactor made light work of crushing the cars, much to the delight of the assembled crowd, as let’s be honest, its not something you see every day!
This entertaining spectacle got me thinking about the Bomag compactors. In real life they are something we hardly ever see, and I have certainly never reported on one of them in Earthmovers Magazine in all the years I have been with the publication.
The machines are virtually always working in remote landfill sites way out of sight from most of us, operating in some of the toughest of conditions with long working hours as they deal with our waste.
I think it would make for a really interesting site visit one of these days and potentially I could undertake a “from the seat” style test drive of one for the magazine, I will be looking into this over the coming months to see if we can make it happen!
