Buchanan invests in latest JCB material handler

A leading Scottish skip hire and recycling firm has purchased a brand new JCB JS20MH – a dedicated material handler, purpose-built for the waste industry – which went into full production this year.

Buchanan invests in latest JCB material handler
West Lothian-based Buchanan Skip Hire has bought the new model which joins two JCB Loadall telescopic handlers – a 541-70 and a 550-80 Wastemaster - in its fleet. All three are used to handle waste as part of the sorting process at Buchanan’s own recycling plant, which is fully licensed by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). The site receives in excess of 20,000 tonnes of materials annually from the Edinburgh, Falkirk and West Lothian regions and currently recycles over 80% of this - drastically reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites. Powered by the 97kW (130hp) JCB Dieselmax engine and fitted with a 5.7 metre straight boom, the 20-tonne JS20MH is tailor-made for excellent material handling performance. The machine purchased by Buchanan is fitted with a hydraulically raised cab for loading containers - giving improved vision and safety on site. It is also equipped with a JCB 530 SQ Selector Grab attachment for segregating waste. Buchanan Skip Hire director, James Buchanan said: “We chose JCB on the back of our longstanding relationship with our dealer Scot JCB from which back-up and service is second to none. What appealed most about the JS20MH is that it has clearly been designed and manufactured specifically for our industry, it’s not just a conventional excavator with a few additions.” “Features such as the raised cab and reversible fan make a huge difference to safety and uptime when operating in a tough environment like we do.” The JCB JS20MH features a completely new undercarriage design and a centralised slew turret for increased all-round stability and uniform lift performance throughout the 360-degree rotation. The result is consistent operation and true material handler characteristics, aided further by a slew gearbox that delivers increased slew accuracy while loading. An intelligent reversible fan gives optimum cooling performance, a Turbo II air pre cleaner provides additional engine filtration and a wide core radiator is also built in. Cab guarding, front and rear light guarding and red and white chevrons on the machine’s rear end combine for machine protection and on-site safety while an air-conditioned cab enhances operator comfort. Founded in 1987, Buchanan Skip Hire has developed from a small family business into one of West Lothian’s largest skip hire and recycling companies. It supplies a full range of skips from 2yd mini right up to 40yd Ro/Ro containers, to both residential customers and businesses, throughout West Lothian, Edinburgh and Falkirk.
