Cat 6060 Electric Makes a Big Impression

Canadian Caterpillar dealer Toromont recently installed one of the first electric versions of Cat’s 6060 mining shovel to be delivered in the world.

The machine has gone to work at IAMGOLD’s Côté mine in Ontario, Canada. The mine itself is owned by IAMGOLD through a joint venture (JV) with Sumitomo of Japan. IAMGOLD owns a 60% stake in the JV while Sumitomo Metal Mining owns 40%.

The ramp-up of the Côté Gold plant continues to progress, with all major equipment including the Cat 6060 performing at or above expected design levels, said a company spokesman.

The 600-tonne class twin motor 6060, which has a power output rating of 1800 kW, has gained high praise for its uptime availability, ease of maintenance and from an operator’s perspective, an extremely comfortable and quiet in cab experience

 The 6060 FS with its rated payload of 61-tonnes, is tailor-made to load 218-227-tonne haul trucks in 4-passes for Cat 739D and 793F models, or 5-passes for the mighty 291-tonne 794 AC model.
