Cornish Hybrid proving to be frugal

In last month’s Earthmovers Magazine I reported on the first Komatsu Hybrid excavator to be sold into the Westcountry. In this post I will publish a few of the photos that didn’t make it into the published article.

After some months on the machine now operator Roger Gerry has become accustomed to the way the Hybrid conducts itself, which he describes as being totally different to any other machine he has ever operated. Initial concerns about the fluctuation in engine speed whilst operating have now vanished as man and machine have become in tune with each other. Roger really is a Komatsu man through and through and it certainly doesn’t surprise me to hear that he is now delighted with his latest mount, after being a tad sceptical initially. Roger reports that one of the biggest bonuses as far as he is concerned, is the fact that he is not spending half as much time filling up with fuel, thanks to the Hybrids cutting edge technology. Roger says “The gaffer is a happy man too, as the fuel savings on this machine are incredible!” We look forward to visiting Roger and his “Hy-Bird” as he affectionally calls it, again sometime in the future.
