Diggers Demo Expo Experience (Part Two)

Rounding off my look back at the recent, hugely successful Demo Expo event, which took place in Birmingham.

Diggers Demo Expo Experience (Part Two)
With the event being a family friendly show, the guys from Diggerland brought in a trio of machines, to enable the youngsters to have some supervised and controlled “stick time” on the JCB mini excavators, on a “hook a duck” and “skittles” challenges. Dealership Gunn JCB brought along the new JCB JS360XD demolition spec machine, equipped with a JCB pulverizer. Liebherr were putting its 586 wheeled loader through its paces in one of the working zones. This impressive looking loader is the largest in the company’s range, powered by a 250kw/335hp engine this machine has a maximum bucket capacity of 14.4 cubic yards. The Volvo stand was kept busy all day, with scores of people queuing for a ride in the latest Volvo A40F articulated dumptruck, which was sporting the livery of big customer Chepstow Plant. A great opportunity for those who have never had the chance to ride in or drive these machines, to experience first-hand, their powerful performance and hill climbing ability! Also making an appearance on the Volvo stand was the EC480DL with the revolutionary Safe Step Cab. This was first displayed at Plantworx back in May. This time the machine was sporting a Rammer 5011 hydraulic breaker, the second largest breaker in the Rammer line up. Also on display was a Volvo L110G wheeled loading shovel, and an 8 wheeler variant of the Volvo FMX tipper lorry, which are designed for tough on site conditions, and are proving to be extremely popular with the site haulage company’s. I returned to the Worsley Plant stand, and was invited to take to the controls of the Doosan DX480LC excavator, which was fitted with the Rotar concrete pulverizer. The power in the Rotar was amazing, it’s not something I’m used to operating, but it was an interesting experience to say the least. I would have preferred the controls to have roller thumb controls on them if I was going to be doing that kind of work for very long, as pressing the standard joystick buttons for 10 hours a day would take its toll on your thumbs I would think, but all in all an impressive machine and tool working in harmony together! To finish off, a couple of more shots from the Liebherr stand. The first machine is this Liebherr 906, which was displayed sporting a Furukawa breaker, which has been supplied by our friends at ECY Haulmark. And this fine Liebherr 944, in high reach configuration, sporting the colours of global demolition outfit EDS. I think everyone who attended this event was impressed and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. I for one am looking forward to the next Demo Expo!
