Diggers Hillhead 2016 Highlights (Part Four)

Ok, so many of you have been asking for more Hillhead photos and there was me thinking we had all seen enough of them. But I aim to please so here is the final post on the event that this time was blighted by bad weather during the first two day’s but still drew in record crowds!

Diggers Hillhead 2016 Highlights (Part Four)
Highlight on the larger of the two JCB stands at Hillhead was without a doubt the innovative new Hydradig wheeled excavator, for many of the public visiting this was the first time that they could get up close and personal with the new machine which has been described by many as a game changer. A number of the new machines were also demonstrated on the demo plot to the rear of the JCB stand. DSC_1662 Talking of wheeled excavators, a more conventional model was displayed on the Takeuchi stand in the form of the well proven TB295W which was displayed with the increasingly popular TAB boom arrangement. The machine also featured front mounted blade and outriggers to the rear. DSC_1615 The Takeuchi TB290 tracked machine was also displayed and this too featured the TAB boom configuration, a fantastic set up offering vastly improved flexibility and scope of work options. DSC_1618 8 - 10 tonne class midi excavators remain extremely popular on sites around the country and over on the A & Y Equipment stand we spotted Yanmar’s Vio80-1 offering looking resplendent in the corporate colours of Total Plant Hire Ltd. We are hoping to get hands on with the latest 10 tonne class SV100-2 midi excavator which features the two piece TAB boom in the not too distant future for Earthmovers Magazine. DSC_1621 Wacker Neuson’s new ET90 is another stylish looking machine competing in the 8 tonne + class category. Like its smaller brother in the range the ET65 the ET90 has been completely re-designed from the ground up. The ET90 gets a 73.8hp Deutz Tier 4 Final turbocharged engine that according to a company spokesman produces more power and up to 20% reduction in fuel consumption when compared to the outgoing models. I have to say I liked the look of this machine and look forward to having a more detailed inspection soon. DSC_1620 Finally in this last post from Hillhead, we don’t very often see Hitachi at UK shows but they returned once more to Buxton with a select number of heavyweight machines aimed at the quarrying sector. Dominating the stand was the Zaxis 870LCR which tips the scales at 85,800kgs, is powered by a 6 cylinder Isuzu BB-6WG1XQA-04 engine which offers a power output rating of 483hp (360kw). The machine can carry buckets ranging from 3.50 – 4.30m3. DSC_1693 Completing the line up on the Hitachi stand was the new ZW310 wheeled loading shovel. This machine was one of a staggering 112 Hitachi machines purchased by Keyway Plant. DSC_1695 Taking into account the bad and rather unseasonal weather encountered at this year’s event the general consensus I got was that it had been a very successful show regardless and everyone is now looking forward to the 2018 event, but before that we have Plantworx 2017 to look forward too!
