Grease is the word for artistic mechanic

Our good friend “Down Under” Gary Steen has once again sent in a number of photos taken on jobs in New South Wales including this batch featuring Cat scrapers.

Gary who is maintenance manager for Lend Lease Construction & Infrastructure formerly (The Abi Group) tells us about a job they had where one service technician had a habit of leaving messages in grease, on the push-pads & push-blocks of the 657G motor scraper’s, much to the amusement of the operator’s. One of the “lucky” recipients was a very efficient, high speed scraper operator who was well known on the NSW scraper circuit as the “The Stig”, after the famous mystery racing driver who appears on the BBC’s Top Gear motoring show. In this shot the following scraper operator gets a message about what will be waiting for him at the end of his shift, a famous Aussie Cold Beer!  The dust has settled on the grease giving the writing a red tinge. This guy’s artistic talents didn’t just stop with witty written comments, he was also known to do pictures too, like this version of the Australian flag which he formed on the push-pad. Nice to see that guys on sites in other parts of the world can still have a bit of fun and banter, a distant memory of how it used to be in this country. We thank Gary for sharing these latest photos with the Digger Man Blog.
