JCB mini backhoe on the right track

Amongst all the big kit on display at the recent Hillhead mining and quarrying show, a lot of attention was being paid to the compact JCB 1CX-T tracked compact backhoe loader.

First seen at ConExpo in Las Vegas earlier this year, JCB chose Hillhead to unveil the new 1CX-T in the UK. A compact backhoe loader which is based around the wheeled 1CX skid steer model, but offering much better climbing ability and improved stability thanks to its low profile, JCB also claim the machine will offer exceptional pushing power even in soft ground conditions. The 1CX-T is powered by a Tier 3 compliant engine offering a power output of 49hp (36.3kw) which is around the power of a standard 2.5 tonne mini excavator.  By using JCB’s innovative Power Management System, that controls the transmission output, operators can increase pushing power while keeping fuel consumption to a minimum. PMS allows travel speeds to be set using lower engine rpm, cutting fuel consumption. The system allows the operator to control ground speed at maximum rpm, providing maximum breakout force without spinning the wheels or tracks, or stalling the engine. Check out this video on the 1CX-T from JCB. My thoughts on it are of a serious piece of kit with lots of potential in a whole host of applications. I for one can’t wait to have a go on one in the future for a potential Earthmovers report.
