Komatsu’s Long Proven Electric Mining Excavators Deliver
While large sectors of the construction industry continue to ponder the value and sustainability of electric machines, the heavy mining sector has long been proving its worth.
The Boliden Aitik Copper Mine, way up in Gällivare in the frozen north of Sweden has long been a place on my bucket list to visit, although sadly, I have not made it there yet.
It is in that frozen wasteland that giant Komatsu electric powered hydraulic excavators have been demonstrating their durability and productivity for many years.
The German built Komatsu PC5500 Electric backhoe excavator is a prime example at the mine, along with a similar powered unit equipped in face shovel configuration, which have both put in some outstanding working hours, in excess of 70,000 hours in fact, during the course of their deployment on site. These green energy powered machines produce 95% less emissions, than comparable internal combustion engine powered models, proving their worth 10 times over in the field!
Checkout this interesting video from Komatsu to find out more about these graceful and emissions friendly giant excavators.
