Liebherr’s new dozer is ready for the big push

Looking resplendent on the stand in white and dark grey livery, Liebherr’s new PR 776 was yet another star attraction during Bauma 2016.

Liebherr’s new dozer is ready for the big push
Although rumours had been rife for some time that Liebherr were developing a large 70 tonne class dozer, I don’t think anyone was expecting the machine which was making its world debut in Munich to feature the Hi-Drive elevated sprocket design that had become so associated with a well-known American manufacturer. But make no mistake about it this dozer, which is the world’s first hydrostatic machine in this size class is 100% Liebherr quality in every aspect. DSC_0046 The new PR 776 which is built in the manufacturers specialist dozer facility in Telfs, Austria, takes its power from a Liebherr 12-cylinder diesel engine developing 565kW (768 HP) which I must say sounded awesome when the machine was fired up during our visit. The PR 776 has a maximum operating weight of 74 t and is equipped with blade capacities of 18 m³ / 23.5 yd3 (semi-U blade) or 22 m³ / 28.8 yd3 (U blade). DSC_0047 Field follow units of the PR 776 have been out on trial for the past year or so, with one being spotted down in Australia which we covered on the blog when it was being transported. Another unit has been working in a quarry in Austria owned and operated by Niederndorfer, where the owner Klaus Mayr, has been very impressed with the low fuel consumption when compared to another manufacturer’s machine that they run in the quarry. DSC_0052 The machine features the continuously variable hydrostatic drive concept that we have become familiar with on all the company’s other crawler tractors and it will be interesting to follow the success of this great looking machine. I am hoping to get across to the factory and proving grounds in Austria for a test drive opportunity for Earthmovers Magazine in the future, if all goes to plan. DSC_0062 Check out this video footage of the machine being fired up during the show, which was always a highlight along with the other large white machines the R 9200 and T 264 which we will cover in future blog posts.
