On Grade with Bell

South African based Bell Equipment is further expanding its product portfolio with the introduction of a motor grader range which is expected to go into production in the third quarter of 2024. I actually spotted this news last week, but I had already prepared my blog list, so hence I have saved it for this week

On Grade with Bell

Traditionally we associate Bell Equipment with ADT’s but there is a lot more to this family-based manufacturer than meets the eye, their sugar beet handling machines are pretty unique pieces of kit, and I can also recall for a short while they were badging up Hyundai excavators as Bell, some of which made it into the UK market back in 2005.

More recently we have seen the introduction of the Bell tracked carrier range, which was first revealed to the public during Bauma 2019.

Bell Equipment have already had a number of prototype machines out working on sites where they are being put to test in terms of reliability and durability and the feedback has been extremely positive according to a Bell spokesman.

The Bell grader range will consist of three base machines, the G140 is designed for all maintenance and light to medium construction tasks, while the G160 was developed to handle heavy construction applications. The G200, the largest grader in the range, is designed for bulk earthworks and the mining industry. Each grader has the option of a four or six-wheel drive configuration.

These graders feature well known, blue-chip components like Cummins engines and ZF transmissions, which are well proven in a wide variety of equipment, Bell state that the G140 will use the Ergopower transmission, while the larger G160 and G200 models will be equipped with the cPower transmission.

Bell have had a long history of collaboration with American company John Deere, and I would be surprised if there wasn’t some influence from that manufacturer on these models. It will be interesting to see these in the Bell line up, offering end users another option for a one stop shop solution in the future.
