Takeuchi & Thwaites line up for Alide Hire Services

Bristol based Alide Hire Services has recently made a significant investment in Takeuchi and Thwaites machinery. The Digger Man Blog went along to see the installation.

Alide Hire Services was established in 1982 and is run by Managing Director, Gareth Hayward, and Financial Director, Shaun Thompson. The business operates from 3 locations in Bristol, Bath and Keynsham covering a 40 mile radius from the depots. The company specialises in small tool hire, access platforms, digger & dumper hire and portable toilet hire. Alide Hire Services has a large variety of customers, but tend to concentrate on a solid core of loyal smaller local customers, including groundworkers, civil engineers, builders, plasterers and fixers. The company are currently 2 years into an 8 year plan to refresh its entire fleet of machines and to expand the fleet from 50 to 120 units. The fleet currently comprises of around 85 machines and is now largely dominated by Takeuchi and Thwaite’s and includes 8 x 3 tonne class mini excavators, 26 x 1.5 tonne class mini excavators, 8 x 1 tonne class mini excavators, 20 x 1 tonne Hi Tip dumpers and additional track carriers and welfare units. Historically the company has run other brands of mini excavator, but in the past 2 years have gradually moved over to the Takeuchi brand, thanks in part to an excellent working relationship with their local dealer, CBL Plant Sales, and consistently good feedback from customers. The most recent order installed by CBL consists of 6 x 1.5 tonne Takeuchi TB216’s, 2 x TB228’s and 9 x Thwaite’s 1 tonne Hi Tip dumpers. Talking about the Takeuchi machines Alide Hire Services Operations Director, Brett Thompson said, “We find them to be very sound machines and extremely smooth to operate. The Japanese are renowned for building solid and reliable machines that can withstand the rigours of the self-drive market. Our customers do like them and often specify Takeuchi when placing an order, which speaks volumes for the product”. All new machines joining the fleet are being fitted with state of the art security systems. The 1 tonne dumpers, 1 & 1.5 tonne mini excavators have been fitted with Enigma key fob immobilisers, whilst the 3 tonne mini excavators have been supplied with the Enigma key pad immobiliser system. In addition the company are looking into fitting tracker devices into its entire fleet. The company are currently holding back on replacing its range of 1 tonne class mini excavators in anticipation of the potential launch of Takeuchi’s new TB208 model at Intermat in Paris in April, a move which will enable Alide Hire Services the opportunity to offer its customers the very latest Takeuchi machines on the market. Talking about the latest deal CBL Plant Sales, Regional Director, John Elliott said, “CBL are delighted to be able to supply an order of this size to Alide Hire Services. The proven reliability of the Thwaites & Takeuchi products was one of the factors in Alide continuing to purchase from CBL. Another important factor was to have good clear lines of communication between the Alide management team and the team at CBL Bristol.
