Digger’s Bauma Highlights (Part Three) Hitachi

These two large machines which were making their official launch debut at the show, dominated one corner of the stand and were always attracting large crowds, so getting decent photos was always a challenge! Hitachi has continued to innovate and build upon the success of its previous EX-6 range to develop the new mining machines. As a result, they are Hitachi’s safest and most efficient to date, according to Mr. Sonosuke Ishii, President of Hitachi Construction Machinery Mining Group. “Our EX-7 excavators feature Hitachi technologies that will bring the Industrial Internet of Things to mining sites around the world. These machines will be able to connect to online servers, which collect valuable data and turn it into actionable insights, to help customers optimise the safety, production and efficiency of their operations.” The Hitachi EX1200-7B (pictured above) on display at Bauma has been sold to large Finnish contractor E. Hartikainen Oy by Finnish dealer Rotator Oy. Based close to the city of Joensuu in Eastern Finland, the company are no strangers to large mining sized excavators, in the early 2000’s they purchased a brand new EX1900 which was also on display during Bauma and in 2011 they were the first company to purchase a Cat 6030 backhoe, which was in fact the largest Caterpillar machine ever delivered to Finland. Weighing in at 117,000kgs the EX1200-7B is powered by a Stage V EU emissions compliant Cummins diesel engine which offers a power output rating of 567kw (760hp) and is fitted with a 5.23 heavy duty rock bucket. The mighty Hitachi EX2600-7B was a big attraction for people wanting to be photographed sat in the face shovel bucket which for display purposes was cleverly fitted with a rock themed seating area. The stream of visitors wanting a photo seamed endless and why not, for most, these machines are not something you see everyday. In its face shovel configuration, the machine is powered by an MTU diesel engine which puts out 1,119kw (1,500hp) and tips the scales at 261,000kgs. Its heaped bucket capacity ranges from 15.0 – 16.5m3. Checkout this video round up from the Hitachi stand at Bauma 2019.
