Swedish machinery show MaskinMassan was the hottest ticket in town

I will be taking a more in depth look at some of the kit that caught my eye at the show in Earthmovers Magazine in due course, but I thought I would pop on a taster blog post here on the Digger Man Blog to wet your appetite first. According to local sources Liebherr are making great strides into the Swedish market in recent years. The German manufacturer had a good presence at the show with a number of interesting machines on display, including the 75,000th excavator made by the company which was an A 918 Compact Litronic wheeled excavator which received a special graffiti design by Claudia Walde, aka MadC, one of the world's most well-known graffiti artists. This machine is expected to make an appearance at the upcoming Hillhead Quarry and Mining show in Buxton later this month. Liebherr also had a demonstration plot where visitors and or potential customers could get hands on with either an R 920 Compact Litronic tracked excavator equipped with an Engcon tiltrotator and an A 914 Compact wheeled excavator with Rototilt tiltrotator as seen in this video from day two of the show.
Flying the flag for the UK was JCB, who not only displayed for the first time publicly in Sweden the new X Series 220, but also presented the Hydradig featuring its region-specific Nordic Edition package of specification. This option offers 360-degree LED working lights, half leather Grammer suspension seat and cooling box for keeping the lunch cool and fresh. This example was also displayed with a factory fitted Steelwrist tiltrotator. Of course, Sweden is home to some of the most amazing and innovative equipment and attachments and is admired by many around the world as a leader in excavation techniques, machinery & attachment development and manufacturing. Company’s like Huddig who produce their stunning articulated backhoe loaders in Hudiksvall, the city that it takes its name from. There were a number of examples around the showground and this 1260D City model was spotted on the SMP tiltrotator stand. For many years in Sweden Takeuchi has been branded as Take-Job, but this year I noticed that all the machines on the dealer’s stand were simply branded with the original Takeuchi name. One of the highlights for me here was the new 15 tonne class TB2150R fixed boom variant which looked splendid fitted with its very colour coordinated Rototilt tiltrotator. This show also presented me with an awesome chance to meet up with a number of high profile North American machinery owners and operators who all have a massive presence on social media and are early adopters of Engcon tiltrotators in both America and Canada who were attending the show as guests of Engcon, the roll call included Tom Gardocki aka @the_dirt_ninja , Sean Coghlan aka @shamrockseanj , Michael Willhite aka @willhitegrading ,  @rockstructures , Mark Olson aka @mpoexc , and Scott Colclough aka @pushysix it was great to meet all the guys and Joanna Tomczyk Director of Sales Engcon North America. I spent the second day touring around the Solvalla show ground with my long term Swedish friend Robert Carlsson, whom I have known since my early days on the internet on the Swedish forum Maskinisten.net. Robert who runs his own business and has been a demonstration operator in the past for Volvo Days was keen to take part in the operator’s competition that was running on the SWECON stand. Steelwrist also displayed a number of its latest products including its own “Qplus” quick coupling technology, which is still compatible with Oilquick, but with significantly higher oil-flow. This is something that fans of the popular “green” brand have been waiting for, for some time and I’m sure they will not be disappointed as it looks to be a great system. Meanwhile back on the Engcon stand I also caught up with two of the most well known tiltrotator end users in the UK, Eddie Warrener and Ollie Kitchin, who were making the annual pilgrimage to Sweden to check out what’s new for forward thinking owner/operators like themselves, the guys are pictured below with Engcon’s Marketing Manager Sten Stromgren. Finally in this mini round -up check out this video on the Engcon demo plot featuring a Doosan DX160W-5 with EC-Oil equipped tiltrotator.
This was my very first visit to this show at the Sovalla horse racing track and I must say I was very, very impressed by it, I am already looking forward to the next one in 2020.
