Bauma the Best of the Rest

I’m drawing a line under our Bauma coverage today with a quick look at some of the other machines that caught my eye during the world’s largest triennial machinery fest in Munich.

Bauma the Best of the Rest

South African ADT manufacturer Bell, chose Bauma as the European launchpad for its new tracked carrier models, the TC7A which features a 7-tonne payload, and the TC11A which features an 11-tonne payload, were presented on the stand alongside the companies more familiar all wheel drive articulated dumptrucks.

Italian brand Eurocomach, whose parent company Sampierana Group, is now under the control of the massive CNH Industrial business, presented a wide range of machines including battery powered electric models like the 25X. This machine tips the scales at 2290kgs with full cabin, and offers a power output of 23kw. One would expect to see this model featured in the CASE brand in due course as Eurocomach are manufacturing machines for the CASE line-up.

British site dumper specialists Thwaites presented a prototype 3-tonne class all electric site dumper at Bauma.

According to Thwaites the dumper has been designed with contractors and hirers in mind, offering the same build quality, and engineering that people have come to expect from the Thwaites range over the years.

Power comes from four maintenance free, long-life, lithium-ion (dry-cell) batteries, operating at 48V. Rated at 5.75kWh each battery provides the power to drive the machine. Two highly efficient electric motors deliver both the traction and hydraulic services.

More electric machines were on display on the Manitou stand, where amongst a whole raft of new products they displayed the new MT 625e compact telehandler which has a lifting capacity of 2.5-tonnes which it can lift to a height of 6m. Capable of the same performance as an internal combustion engine model, the machine can be fitted with either a 25kW or 33kW lithium-ion battery.

Chinese manufacturer XCMG are set to be knocking on the door of the UK market anytime soon and they presented a wide range of their products during Bauma ranging from mini excavators right up to 50-tonne plus excavators. This 15-tonne class XE 155E CR caught my excavator caught my eye on the stand. It will be interesting to get some time in the seat of one of these machines for Earthmovers Magazine in the future.

PAUS is a German based brand of construction machinery that I don’t think I have ever seen in the UK market before. At Bauma they presented their new AKR 9095 site dumper which features a revolving seat dual view system, but unusually without a cabin.

And finally, Chinese manufacturer SANY launched its first two models of a range of telescopic handlers at Bauma. The STH 1440 and STH 1840 have both been designed in Europe and feature well known European components. Both machines are powered by a Stage V emissions compliant Deutz 3.6 TD engine and have a rated payload capacity of 4-tonnes.

So that was Bauma for 2022, only another 3 years to waith for the next one in 2025! And in all fairness that will come around soon enough as the year's seem to doing as I get older!

But to finish off, here's a Top 5 Excavators video put together by our friends over at Diggers and Dozers.
