Behind the Scenes with the JCB Dancing Diggers
The official JCB Dancing Diggers are without doubt, the most iconic digger dancing display team in the world, often imitated but never equalled in their style, class and professionalism around the world.
The idea was dreamt up in 1962 by the great man himself, Mr Joe Cyril Bamford, as a publicity stunt to show off the quality of the hydraulics and to demonstrate his faith in the machines in general by driving a car underneath one of the machines while raised in the air by its backhoe and front loader arms!
For over 60 years now a Dancing Digger team has been in place at JCB travelling all over the globe to demonstrate the versatility of the backhoe loader to crowds who just love to see the yellow diggers in action.
Of course, the show never stops evolving, with new routines and bringing in additional machines to support the act like telehandlers and Hydradigs for instance.
Many of the long-standing operators on the team have become familiar faces in the industry, over the years, and I have been fortunate enough to have caught up with them in numerous countries during my time in the media side of things.
But, like most things in life, there is so much more to this than meets the eye, and I have always wondered how the routines are worked out, and what kind of training the team go through to get it all so spot on, well now courtesy of JCB, we can go behind the scenes to find out just how it all works, with this informative and insightful video.
