Cat’s are the cream for cable ploughing

In yesterday’s blog post we featured something a bit different and today we are doing the same as we take a look at the cable ploughing kit of Aneurin Thomas Ploughing.

Cat’s are the cream for cable ploughing
Cable ploughing is specialist work and in all fairness, it’s not something you see every day, that’s why I found these photos which were kindly sent into me recently of particular interest. Based in Pencader, Carmarthenshire, ATP (Aneurin Thomas Ploughing) was initially set up in the 1960’s when it was primarily engaged in agricultural drainage works. The company has a long association with Caterpillar machines and currently runs at least 11 examples including 2 x D5K’s, 2 x D6K’s, 1 x D6T, 1 x D5M, 1 x D6N and 1 D6R to name a few. 196 Today the company is managed by Aneurin’s son Jason Thomas, who explained that cable ploughing has been proven to be the most efficient, environmentally friendly and effective way of installing pipes and cables below ground. 005 The cable plough system can have a lot less impact on the environment compared to using traditional methods like excavators, which is especially beneficial when working in sensitive environments like National Parks and the like. 009 Caterpillar tracked type tractors have proven themselves over and over again and the company is continuing to invest in the American giant’s kit which is supplied in the UK by Finning. Look out for a more in depth feature on these machines in a future edition of Earthmovers Magazine.
