Liebherr Delights at Bauma
Having returned from another thoroughly enjoyable visit to Finland, it's straight back to business continuing to look back at some of the highlights from the recent Bauma trade fair in Munich.
The mighty Liebherr stand is always a striking feature of Bauma and a renowned meeting point for anyone wanting to catch up during the show. The assembled heavy weight machines at the front of the stand, is always a crowd pleaser, and this year it was business as usual, with the 350-tonne class R 9400 E electric powered hydraulic mining excavator being put through its paces during regular demos.

Parked along side in the usual spot was the T 264 E battery-electric, autonomous mining truck. With a payload of 240 tonnes, the machine has been designed to combine top performance with zero emission operation.
Its battery system, developed by the Australian mining customer Fortescue, which specialises in green technologies, enables both static charging via a robotic charging arm and dynamic charging.

For dynamic charging, the mining truck connects to the Liebherr lateral power rail while travelling and is automatically supplied with energy. This means the machine can work without interruption, significantly increasing the efficiency of the mining operation.
On a much smaller scale Liebherr displayed the much-anticipated A 909 and A 911 compact wheeled excavators. The two new models compete in the nine- and eleven-ton class sectors respectively, and will further expand the Liebherr wheeled excavator portfolio.

The A 909 Compact and the A 911 Compact are powerful machines that set new standards in their respective classes and offer customers an optimum solution for demanding applications.

Liebherr’s big dozer the PR 776 now in its Generation 8 guise was also presented, first launched during the 2016 edition of Bauma, when I was a guest of Liebherr on the social media event, the machine continues to gain friends around the world, and struck a dominating figure on the stand.

Also making a very bold statement were two large hydraulic excavators in a striking all red livery, which included the 100-tonne class R 998 SME which has been sold to Prangenberg & Zaum GmbH (P&Z) – a family-run German company specialising in demolition and restoration.

The keys to the giant machine were handed over during a ceremony at the show, marking the companies first purchase of a Liebherr excavator. The machine had been modified at the customers request to enable it to use an 11-tonne shear attachment.
I didn't get to spend as much time on the Liebherr stand at this years events due to other commitments, but what I saw of it was as impressive as it ever has been previously.
