Like it or not, machine control is the future
Many old school operators like myself, struggle to get our heads around the current trend for excavation technology, but as the X Box Generation come through and into the industry this is the way it’s going without a doubt.
Technological innovation in excavation techniques continues unabated and pretty soon it’s going to be a case of embrace it or get left behind. I of course can see the benefits but I still find it all a bit mind blowing, so I was keen to find out a bit more about these systems.
I was in all fairness blown away by how much video content there is on the internet about the topic, so I’ve selected a couple of videos which I think explain in an easy to understand "laymans" way just what it’s all about. The first video features New Zealand based Leica Sales Consultant Samantha Divers who explains how the Leica 3D system works.
In the second video we have David Allen who is the Technical Support Manager for SITECH in the South of England, who talks about the 3D excavator systems on site with Collins Earthworks and explains that the entire jobsite was a fully operational Trimble 3D operation.
I liken this now to those who are still in denial about the benefits of tilt-rotators, you either move with the times, or give up the game, as the future is in 3D.
