Quirky German Mini Wheeled Excavator

Something a little different today on the Digger Man Blog, with a compact wheeled excavator I had not come across before.

German manufacturer Hunklinger allortech GmbH are probably better known for their block paving equipment which includes paver laying clamps, grabs, hand screeding tools and general paving tools, however in 2023 they launched a dedicated mobile excavator designed for block paving contractors.

The HW20 has been designed for contractors in the paving industry, to offer them even more versatility, as opposed to using a conventional paving machine. In addition, the highly mobile HW20 which has a top road speed of 20km/h, can do so much more when fitted with a wide range of attachments. Just like any other mini excavator the machine features 360 degree slew and an off-set boom function.

Powered by an 18kw Yanmar diesel engine, the HW20 which weighs in at 1870kgs, has plenty of unique features, not least the extendable and retractable wheelbase, which when retracted allows for access into tight entrances, and can then be extended out to make a secure working platform.

And it doesn’t stop there, the 4x4 machine features a telescopic chassis which allows for the rear engine bay/counterweight to be extended out providing even more stability when lifting heavy loads such as block pavers. The rated lifting capacity is 500kg, and the digger has a maximum reach at ground level of 3.80m, whilst the maximum dig depth is 2.20m.

The spacious glazed and heated cabin offers excellent all-around visibility, and the sporty little steering wheel is a nice feature which doesn’t hinder the operator’s visibility.
