Rare Aljon Compactor Spotted
During one of last weeks site visits I spotted a beast of a compactor, the likes of which I had never seen before, so I figured it would be of interest to our readers and followers here on the Digger Man Blog.
I was on site in Royal Wooton Bassett to visit the landfill and waste recycling operation of Crapper & Sons Landfill Ltd, and to primarily report on their new JCB 370XLC, which will feature in a forthcoming article in Earthmovers Magazine.
However, whilst out shooting photos and capturing some video footage, I spotted one of two the American built Aljon heavy duty landfill compactors that the company own.

Weighing in at around 60 tonnes, one of these unusual machines currently has its engine out for repairs, but one of them is still running powered by a 600+hp John Deere engine and the team very kindly fired the beast up and took it for a spin across the trash so I could capture some footage.
These are certainly something that you don’t see very often in the UK, and as I said previously, I had never seen or even heard of them before which makes it all the more interesting.
I’m looking forward to cracking on with the full-blown Earthmovers article next week!
