This Is JCB: Archive Footage #ThrowbackThursday

Our friends over at JCB have been delving into their extensive archives once more and last week they posted this classic promotional film simply entitled, ‘This is JCB’.

Running at just over 26 minutes long, this clip is more like an epic movie from start to finish. Many of us who grew up during this era of JCB will relate to all the machines that appear in this video, the Chaseside 1750 wheeled loaders, 6C hydraulic excavators, but probably more than any other machine, the classic JCB 3C backhoe loader, which has always been a British icon on construction sites.

The opening scenes with the young lad almost running a marathon to get to the digging area is inspiration enough to keep the viewer gripped in expectation of what he is going to discover at the top of the earth mound.

Eagle eyed viewers may recall that the JCB footage was also used in the Channel 4 documentary series Classic Plant, in the edition simply entitled “Diggers” that was first broadcast in 1998, which was narrated by the late John Peel.

Although time has moved on, essentially the same work goes on at JCB to this day, continually evolving and innovating in the same factory which is even larger today, a real testament to this great British family-based business, that is a massive global player in the construction equipment and machinery industry.
