Up Close and Personal with the Cat D11
One of my biggest wishes is to be let loose in one of Caterpillar’s D11’s, its something that has evaded me so far, but I live in hope, however, our Canadian friend Pushysix aka Scott Colclough has been up in one and produced this great video.
Whichever way you look at it, the mighty Caterpillar D11 is a significant beast of a dozer. And now that Komatsu’s D575A is no longer in production, the D11 is as Pushysix puts it, the “Big Daddy” of production bulldozers.
Incredibly the D11 has been around since as far back as 1986 when the D11N version, powered by a 770hp (570kw) Cat 3508 diesel engine was first launched to replace the D10 as the big Cat in the line-up.
By contrast today’s latest D11 model is now powered by Cat’s C32 diesel engine offering a power output rating of 850hp (634kw) and has an operational weight of 229800lbs (104236kgs) making it even more of a beast. Its this tractor that Pushysix gets “hands on” with in this video at Cat’s proving ground in Arizona.
Let’s join Pushy in the cab for a virtual D11 experience!
