NorrDigi MCC System Showcased at FinnMetko

Hydraulic system specialists Norrhydro Group Oy who are headquarted in Rovaniemi, Finland, chose FinnMetko 2024 the forest machinery and earthmoving equipment exhibition in Jämsä, to showcase their new NorrDigi MCC System to the public.

NorrDigi MCC System Showcased at FinnMetko

As part of a collaboration with CEES and Volvo CE Finland, who provided the environmentally friendly and fuel-saving Volvo EC300E hydraulic excavator, which was equipped with the NorrDigi MCC system for this event.

The innovative system which has been patented by Norrhydro is effectively based on the control of intelligent multi-chamber cylinders. As we have seen with other hybrid systems in recent years, the energy generated by the excavator’s movements during the working cycle is recovered and stored in the machine’s pressure accumulators for reuse. This NorrDigi system also features what they call smart motion control which is designed to ensure safe and more precise movements of the boom, dipper and bucket.

Quite how these things are calculated I’m not sure, but the company suggests that the system can offer significant fuel savings whilst greatly reducing CO2 emissions. According to a company spokesperson, field tests were conducted earlier this year during the spring, and revealed up to -50% reduction in fuel consumption, whilst still offering the same performance as any conventional hydraulic systems on machines in this weight class bracket.

The machine was being put through its paces in the FinnMetko sand pit by Finnish machine operator Viljami, aka @pillariviltsu on Instagram who is more commonly found on his day job operating a Cat 325F L for Tampere based contractor Sorapyörä Oy
